Classroom Rules
|
Consequences |
In our class, we follow the 6 BE's
1. BE Prepared 2. BE Responsible 3. BE Respectful 4. BE Accountable 5. BE Your Best 6. BE Following technology rules --- phone is silent or off and put away --- earphones are off your head and put away --- nothing is used without permission and only for approved activities. Each class period during the first weeks of school will be writing their Class Contracts. Students will determine what each rule means and what applies to those rules. Each student will then be expected to sign the contract as an agreement with the rules and consequences. Links to those contracts will be provided here when ready. |
If a student is found in violation of any of the 6 main rules, the tier of consequences is as follows:
1. Strike One: Verbal warning 2. Strike Two: Name on board & email home 3. Strike Three: Name on board with a disciplinary action* ----> 1st offense: Contact home and 1 day lunch detention ----> 2nd offense: Contact home and 2 days lunch detention ----> 3rd offense: Contact home and 3 days lunch detention ----> 4th offense: Contact home and 1 hour of Wednesday School ----> 5th offense: Contact home and 2 hours of Wednesday School ----> 6th+ offense: Referral * A student/teacher chat may be arranged to discuss the behavior. Miss Morales can and will escalate a disciplinary action depending on the severity of the offense. Technology violations have a separate tier of consequences. Please see below. |
Expectations & Procedures
When Entering the Classroom:
|
At Start of Class:
|
1. Enter the room quickly and quietly. No rough-housing.
----> If you left the room during class, please knock quietly on the door then enter the room silently. Remember to sign back in with the time returned. Immediately return to your seat and work. Don't forget to return the wooden pass. 2. Gather required materials for the class and place all other belongings under the back counter. 3. If you need a pencil, need a sharpened pencil, need paper, etc. take care of it before the tardy bell. 4. Sit in your assigned seat. If you sit anywhere else, you will be told to move back. No arguing. When Exiting the Classroom:
1. The bell does not dismiss you. The teacher dismisses you.
2. When dismissed, calmly exit with no rough-housing. 3. Do not disturb materials on desks, tables, counters, or walls as you exit. When given permission to use the restroom or go to another destination: 1. Calmly and quietly sign out by the door with your name, date, and time out. 2. Remember to take the pass for the restroom. Do not deliberately damage the pass! 3. All other destinations need a written pass from Miss Morales. |
1. End all conversation and listen for directions.
2. Immediately begin on bell work as indicated on the whiteboard. 3. Stay on-task and no talking for the duration of the bell work period. * Class Meetings: Every Monday we will begin class with a "class meeting". This is your opportunity to share with classmates anything non-academic that is on your mind. Any needed announcements for the week, if known, will also be made. Once the class meeting is over, students agree to remain focused on topic and keep non-relevant topics to themselves until after class or the next class meeting. During Class:
1. Remain on-task with indoor voices at all times.
2. Pay attention. Quickly stop talking when teacher calls attention. 3. Participate. You will be randomly chosen to speak and/or perform tasks. 4. The designated person will open the door when needed calmly without disruptions. 4-Minute Wrap-Up Procedure:
1. Only begin packing up when told. Write any due dates in your planner.
2. Make sure all of your work has your NAME on it and place work in your class turn-in tray. 3. Clean up all materials and place back in their appropriate space. 4. Clean up any and all trash both on and around your desk. 5. Return to your seat and wait quietly for announcements. |
Restroom Policy
Every time you are not in class, you are missing instructional time. The restroom should only be used for an emergency! And trust me, I can tell when you really have an emergency. Please use the restroom before school and during lunch.
I allow 2 excuses per week to use the restroom; students will have class with me 3 times a week. Students who routinely use their 2 excuses will have a contact home. If you know you always need to "go" during your period with me, use the restroom between classes or check in with me if there is at least 3 minutes before the tardy bell. You will also be handing over your cellphone as part of your pass. If you used your 2 excuses and you clearly have an emergency, I will make a judgement call.
If you have not used both of your excuses for the week, here is the policy:

Technology Use In Class
See the details under our 6 BE rules for the 3 absolute laws regarding phones/technology in class.
Parents! Text messages and phone calls are not only disruptive to your child's learning, but to every child's learning in class. If you need to contact your child in an emergency situation, please call the front office at 407-746-3850 and the message will be relayed appropriately to the classroom. Your child's phone WILL be confiscated if still being used inappropriately after the first verbal warning. Please see the tier of consequences below.
If you are caught using your phone/technology without permission or not for the purpose allowed, there are specific consequences:
Strike 1: Verbal warning. This is your ONLY warning.
Strike 2: Name on board and confiscation of phone/technology. If no further strikes, device will be returned at the end of class.
Strike 3: Name on board, 1 day of lunch detention, and device must be picked up by a parent/guardian at the end of the day.
Continued violations past strike 3: Escalated disciplinary referrals.
